Social media went ablaze as event organizer Bonnie Nzunga alleged that Themba Radebe, aka Royal Stara, failed to refund him his remaining R30,000 for booking Producer and DJ Oscar Mbo for an event last year, which Mbo ultimately didn’t attend. Because the real Oscar Mbo didn’t know he had to be there.
Screenshots obtained by the media reveal Nzunga’s claim that he paid R35,000 directly to Radebe’s account to book Mbo, only to receive a partial refund of R5,000. When Mbo didn’t show up for the gig, Nzunga accused Radebe of withholding the booking fee, saying that Mbo had no knowledge of the event or the booking.
In response, Mbo posted an apology video, stating date confusion with his team and his absence abroad. However, Nzunga believes Mbo was covering for Radebe, alleging that Mbo’s management confirmed this.
Nzunga repeatedly asked Radebe for proof of payment, suspecting that the funds weren’t passed on to Mbo or his record company, Ashmed Hour Records. Despite Nzunga’s inquiries, Radebe failed to provide documentation, claiming that his bank statements are with his attorneys as he pursues defamation charges.
When contacted, Mbo’s new manager expressed ignorance of the situation, indicating it was her first time hearing about it. Radebe disclosed that he stopped managing Mbo due to his consistent no-shows at events.
Yikes.
