Chris Pine recently opened up about one interesting moment in his career when he missed out on a starring role in The O.C., almost two decades ago, simply because of struggles with his skin.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Pine revealed that his acne-prone skin ultimately cost him the role of Ryan Atwood, which eventually went to Ben McKenzie. Reflecting on the casting process, Pine disclosed, “My bad skin… I had awful skin as a teenager and then when I came after college, my skin started breaking out again.”
Despite being 23 years old at the time of The O.C.’s premiere in 2003, Pine revealed that he was disappointed about losing the opportunity. However, he maintained a positive outlook by recognizing that his career took a different path. “I can understand that they wanted to have pretty people doing pretty things,” Pine quipped, expressing gratitude for the trajectory his career ultimately took.
Pine also decided shared words of encouragement to anyone that is facing any skin challenges, and mentioned that he understands that acne can take a tall on anyone with it. However, he also highlighted that there is a possibility of brighter days ahead.
