Itumeleng Khune Returns to Kaizer Chiefs Line-up After Suspension

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is making his return to the squad under coach Cavin Johnson, following Brandon Petersen’s two-match suspension.

Khune, a veteran goalkeeper, will be part of the matchday squad for the first time since November 2023, when Amakhosi faced a 1-0 defeat to their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates. His absence was due to a three-month suspension for breaching the club’s code of conduct.

Chiefs have officially announced that Khune will be honoured during Saturday’s league match against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium, with the kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

In a statement released on Thursday, Amakhosi revealed their plans to celebrate Khune’s 25 years of service to the club. Khune joined Chiefs in 1999 as a young boy and spent five years in the club’s development program before being promoted.

Now 36, Khune was first elevated to the Chiefs senior team in 2004, but he had to wait until 2007 to make his debut. His dedication and long-term commitment to the club will be acknowledged in this weekend’s fixture.
