The internet is torn over Kim Kardashian’s 2024 Met Gala ensemble.
As celebrities graced New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday in glamorous outfits, the Kardashian star made heads turn with an unexpected accessory.
Alongside her custom Maison Margiela Couture dress, featuring silver floral embellishments on a waist-cinching corset and sheer skirt, Kim wore a fuzzy gray sweater for her red carpet appearance. Despite the event typically showcasing extravagant looks, Kim’s choice to pair her high-glam gown with a casual cardigan left the internet puzzled.
Another user joked, “Kim’s dress had to have broken somehow bc there’s no way that ugly a– rag of a sweater was part of it.” However, considering this year’s Met Gala theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” some saw the pullover as a deliberate nod to the theme.
“Her little sweater is adorable,” an X user wrote, while another suggested it could be “functional” once inside the building. “on theme. gorgeous. oh my haute couture. YES. love the structure. sleepy- but elegant. like she’s wrapped in a sheet.”
However, the real story behind the cardigan emerged. As seen in Instagram photos taken in a professional studio before her arrival, Kim posed with the cardigan draped over her shoulders like a shawl. She explained that it’s a reference to “the wildest night of my life in a garden.”
“I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater,” she told Vogue, “and threw it on and had to get to work.”
