Last week, HUAWEI launched the new HUAWEI Pura 70 Series worldwide. The new Pura Series launch marks an official rebrand of the HUAWEI P Series, which has been responsible for many groundbreaking smartphone camera technologies of the past.
The three new smartphones – HUAWEI Pura 70, HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro, and HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra –bring new pioneering features to the smartphone market and have once again delivered on camera innovations, continuing the long-standing hallmark of the smartphone series.
After a comprehensive review, renowned tech lab DXOMARK has crowned the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra as its top smartphone camera, awarding it a score of 163. The review highlighted the smartphone camera’s excellent colour accuracy, earning the phone a historic all-time high rating in the category as well as leading autofocus capabilities. The camera showed strong performance in other categories as well, such as:

Here are all the standout features of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra’s photography capabilities, as highlighted in DXOMARK’s in-depth review.
Ultra Speed Snapshot: For All the Unmissable Highlights of Life
Since its launch, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra has been commended for its record-breaking Ultra Speed Snapshot feature, which enables high-speed photography up to 300km/h – faster than the average speed of a maglev train!
This means users can freeze the most precious and transient moments of life, whether it’s a pet running towards you as you come home or your favourite athlete in a high-energy match. The Ultra Speed Snapshot feature promises that you’ll be able to seize every precious moment; just point and shoot right in the heat of the moment and photograph the subject in its most natural state. DXOMARK highlighted the camera’s Autofocus in its review, commending its accuracy and high speed in all conditions it was tested in, awarding a high rating of 125.
This was made possible by increased light intake on the Ultra Lighting main camera and the HUAWEI XD Motion Engine. When shooting a moving subject, it uses real-time sensor dual exposure where the short exposure records the details of the moment, and the long exposure retains rich background information. Then, through AI Motion Vector Computing, the shots are matched through Regional Motion Restore, producing a crystal-clear photograph that reduces the loss of detail to motion blur.
Ultra Lighting Pop-Out Camera: Unmatched Light Intake
The HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra also features the Ultra Lighting Pop-Out Camera, a retractable camera structure that manages to fit a one-inch sensor size and F1.6 large aperture within its 8.4mm-thin body. The Advanced Rotatory Transmission System automatically extends the camera during shooting, creating more space inside the internal camera structure.
This feature allows the lightweight smartphone to house the industry’s first pop-out camera with the largest light intake. At the same time, it achieves better night scenes and dynamic range performance. DXOMARK notes that the camera’s “dynamic range is very wide, and contrasts are outstanding when photos are viewed on an HDR screen” and further adds that the “colours are very pleasant on HDR display.”
Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera: Beyond What the Eye Can See
The HUAWEI P Series won much acclaim with its very own Ultra Lighting Telephoto Camera last year on the HUAWEI P60 Pro, which also gained praise from DXOMARK. Now, the Pura 70 Ultra is equipped with a new generation of Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera. With the industry’s largest F2.1 aperture periscope telephoto camera, it ensures photographs captured in bright or darker-lit conditions look consistently clear. The camera also supports long travel slide zoom, an innovative hardware that produces sharp images whether photographed from near or far.
DXOMARK rates the Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera’s Zoom an impressive 164, especially commending the camera’s “pleasant macro perspective and sharp images” and highlighting its ability to produce detail-rich telephoto images with low noise, even in low light.
The HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra also adds a new ‘Enhance images’ mode, which uses a high-image quality engine to fuse image information at different focal lengths and resolutions to generate a 25-megapixel high-definition photo and achieve multi-camera fusion in a combined photograph. This produces consistently clear, rich image details when shooting still images in various environments.
The HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra also supports a 200x zoom range (0.5x~100x). With high-magnification zoom, users capture high-resolution photography of the most intricate details up-close or crystal-clear telephoto photography of mountain peaks or city skylines far away.
DXOMARK is an established image authority that scores and ranks cameras and camera equipment. Widely trusted by experts, its tests are backed by millions of scientific measurements and perceptual analyses.
