“Calm Down” has shattered yet another record, as reported by Chart Data on X, formerly known as Twitter. The hit track by 24-year-old Nigerian sensation Rema has officially become the most-streamed Afrobeats song in the United States.
Rema released the original version of this mid-tempo banger as the second single from his debut studio album, Rave & Roses, in March 2022. The song’s infectious beat and catchy lyrics quickly caught the attention of listeners, propelling it onto the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart just two months later.
Recognizing the song’s potential, Rema enlisted the help of pop star Selena Gomez to give the track an extra boost. This collaboration took “Calm Down” to unprecedented heights, making it the first African song to spend an entire year on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became the highest-charting single with an Afrobeats artist as the lead performer.
The remix’s popularity is evident on YouTube, where it has garnered approximately 894 million views, making it the most-watched music video by a Nigerian artist.
With this achievement, Rema joins the ranks of globally recognized African artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Tyla, Tito M, and Arya. He is at the forefront of a new wave of African musicians bringing the vibrant sounds of Afrobeats, Amapiano, and Makossa to audiences around the world.
Congratulations to Rema for this monumental achievement!
