‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Actor Tamayo Perry Dies in Shark Attack While Surfing in Hawaii

Tamayo Perry, known for his role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” tragically died on Sunday afternoon after being attacked by a shark while surfing in Hawaii. The 49-year-old’s death was confirmed by Honolulu’s emergency services during a press conference.

Emergency responders were dispatched to Malaekahana Beach around 1:00 PM local time. Despite their swift arrival and efforts, Perry, who was also an experienced lifeguard, was pronounced dead by paramedics after being brought to shore by jet ski.

At the time of this report, authorities have not determined the type of shark involved in the attack.

Perry gained recognition for his portrayal of a buccaneer in the 2011 “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, which starred Johnny Depp as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow, along with Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush. Beyond this role, Perry appeared in several notable productions including “Lost,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Crush,” and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” and was featured in a Coca-Cola commercial.

Born and raised on the east side of Oahu, Perry had been a professional surfer for over a decade, embracing the waves that ultimately took his life.
