Team South Africa ready to take on the 2024 Paris Olympics!

Team South Africa is set to make waves at the 2024 Paris Olympics! The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) just announced more names and sports codes, expanding the team in a big way.

President Barry Hendricks proudly revealed the new additions, emphasizing the impressive achievements of South Africa’s athletes. “This is a significant step in acknowledging the remarkable achievements of our athletes. This moment also marks a new milestone for our organisation as we continue our commitment to deliver a strong and competitive Team SA for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” he stated.

The latest announcement adds a diverse array of talent across 15 sports, including athletics, archery, cycling, fencing, hockey, rowing, rugby women’s sevens, and triathlon. This expansion includes the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams, which qualified at the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas. Notable athletes such as double African Games gold medalist Johanita Scholtz (badminton), triathlete Henri Schoeman, and rower John Smith, who will attend his fourth Olympics, are among the highlights.

The women’s sevens rugby squad has been announced as a preliminary team, with the final roster to be confirmed by the end of June.

In addition to the expanded team, Sascoc has introduced financial incentives for medalists. Athletes and their coaches can earn significant rewards for bringing home medals, with bonuses for gold, silver, and bronze across individual and team sports.
