BREAKING: Team USA scrapes past the spears of South Sudan

A game fans expected to be a breeze turned dramatic on Saturday night. Team USA narrowly escaped the claws of “The Bright Stars” in a fierce showdown.

South Sudan, who happen to be the youngest country in the world- took the underdog mentality to the next level. They nearly pulled off an unthinkable upset against the star-studded Team USA in a pre-Olympic thriller.

Although LeBron James led his team to a narrow 101-100 victory, “The Bright Stars,” who are facing a civil war, won the hearts of the London fans.

Despite Team USA’s stacked roster, Saturday’s game was a harsh reminder that anything can happen in basketball. The Bright Stars announced themselves on the global stage with a staggering 14-point lead at the half. Fans were amazed as Sudanese players made tough shots against some of the sport’s greatest players.

South-Sudanese guard, Carlik Jones, led the charge and did everything on the court. From hitting contested shots, to brilliant playmaking and surprisingly, resilient rebounding too. This inspired the team to show great hunger, pushing the American stars to dig deep in the second half.

Inspired by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the USA opened the second half with an 18-0 run. They showed their skill and took an 81-76 lead into the fourth quarter.

Additionally, Steph Curry dialled in from range and hit crucial three-pointers to bring his team back into the game.

As supporters globally thought the Sudanese hoax was over, the Bright Stars shone their light again in the remaining 10 minutes. They refused to be silenced, hitting shot after shot with precision and skill.

With 20 seconds left, JT Thor hit a left-handed three over LeBron James to give South Sudan a 100-99 lead. It was surely game over as the arena erupted! Unless…

The man who has sat on the throne of basketball for two decades is in your team. “King James” stepped up in the final moments, overcoming adversity as he has throughout his career. With a power drive on the left side, Lebron muscled through the lane and wrapped up the game in dramatic fashion with a layup. USA claimed a 101-100 victory as the Bright Stars failed to convert on their final two possessions.

Here’s a few highlights as well as fan feedback from the game…
