Nestled in the heart of Cape Town, Table Mountain’s renowned cableway service is not just a ride; it’s an experience curated by a passionate team. These dedicated men and women work tirelessly to ensure every visit is unforgettable, and now their hard work is being celebrated with a prestigious World Travel Awards nomination.
“A win for Table Mountain at the World Travel Awards is a win for everyone in Cape Town and the Western Cape,” says TMACC Executive Director Selma Hercules. “Think of those iconic Cape Town photos — you immediately see the mountain and the Cableway. The World Travel Awards is a chance to remind people from all over the world why they should come to explore and enjoy the Mother City.”
The World Travel Awards are a golden opportunity for tourism operators to measure themselves against the crème de la crème of the industry. This year, Table Mountain is vying for the title of “Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction.”
“Our strength at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway lies in our people. It’s their smiling faces and warm welcomes that make visitors fall in love with the mountain,” says Hercules. “We asked our team to share why people should vote for Table Mountain at the WTA.”
Andiswa Sontondu, a Cableway Cashier, shares her excitement: “I’ve worked at the Cableway for 5 years, and seeing all our trophies on display is such a thrill. It shows that our team is doing something right, and I hope we can add this year’s WTA trophy to that display.”
Antonio Fortune, a multiskilled steward who has been with TMACC since 2015, compares the World Travel Awards to the Grammys of the tourism industry. “As someone who welcomes visitors at Table Mountain every day, it’s much more than just being Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction. Winning this trophy again means we are at the pinnacle of the tourism industry. We all want this.”
Public voting for the World Travel Awards is open until September 8, 2024. Make your voice heard and cast your vote at World Travel Awards Voting.
Table Mountain is competing in the “Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction” category against formidable contenders like the Hartebeespoort Aerial Cableway, Lake Malawi, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Okavango Delta in Botswana, the Pyramids of Giza, Robben Island, and the V&A Waterfront. Having already won this category five times before — in 2014, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 — Table Mountain is aiming for yet another victory.
