Thobani Nzuza, the multi-talented star in the world of acting, directing, and playwriting, is making waves again, as he has published his long-awaited second book, “Shintsha Guluva.”
Nzuza, has captivated audiences with his performances in hit TV shows like ‘eHostela, Uzalo’, ‘Isitha: The Enemy’, and ‘Isipho’, is no stranger to storytelling.
What makes this release even more special is the story behind it. Nzuza revealed that he actually wrote “Shintsha Guluva” back in 2014 while still a university student. But like a fine wine, it seems this play has only gotten better with time. After almost a decade in draft form, it’s finally ready to see the light of day.
“I have decided to publish a second theatre play I wrote while I was in varsity in 2014,” Nzuza shared, reflecting on his journey.
The 31-year-old playwright didn’t walk this path alone. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Nzuza expressed deep gratitude to Sphephelo Dlamini, who played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition. “Thanks to @sphephelo_afezeka for all the assistance in publishing this one! Salute ndabuko!” he wrote.
The decision to finally publish “Shintsha Guluva” was sparked by a significant moment of recognition. Earlier this year, Nzuza received an email from Professor Ravengai of Wits University, which proved to be a turning point.
“Last year, I supervised two 4th-year students doing a directing project from your play, which I found interesting. At the time, I thought it was published, but now I know that it is still in draft form. I would like to expose my first years to your work as, during this first semester, they do non-realist/presentational theatre,” wrote the professor, highlighting the play’s great potential.
This praise from school was the nudge Nzuza needed to take the leap and finally publish his work, ensuring that “Shintsha Guluva” could reach a wider audience and inspire the next generation of theatre enthusiasts.
