Actor Unathi Faku bags a nomination at the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards!

Unathi Faku, a talented actor and voice-over artist, is making waves in the African film industry with his recent nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the prestigious 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards. His standout performance in the critically acclaimed film The Queenstown Kings has earned him this remarkable recognition, marking a milestone in his burgeoning career. Known for his powerful presence on screen and versatility as an actor, Unathi continues to push boundaries in his craft.

Unathi’s career is marked by his dynamic performances across various platforms, including film, television, and commercials. His role in The Queenstown Kings put him alongside industry heavyweights, and his commanding performance did not go unnoticed. With a portfolio that includes roles in popular TV series such as Heist, Dreamworld, Keeping Score, Blood Psalms, A Digger in the Dark, Gqeberha: The Empire, and Uxolo, Unathi has consistently proven his range and ability to bring depth to each character he portrays.

“This is my first nomination as an actor, and it means a lot to get validation from my industry peers at such prestigious awards on the continent,” Unathi shares. “It would be a huge pat on the back if either myself or Sandile [his co-star] wins the crown. But being nominated is already a big deal.”

Unathi’s passion for acting was sparked by a deep love for storytelling and a desire to excel in his craft. He has worked tirelessly to carve out a place for himself in an industry that demands both talent and perseverance.

When asked about the role that gave him his breakthrough, Unathi points to his performance in The Queenstown Kings: “The role challenged me as an actor, pushing me out of my comfort zone. It was a do-or-die project, and I’m thrilled people received it well.”

Like many actors, Unathi faced his fair share of challenges while establishing himself. He acknowledges that one of the biggest obstacles was not getting enough responsibility or challenging roles early in his career. “I like being thrown in the deep end and expected to swim because I thrive under pressure,” he admits.

Hailing from Mdantsane, a township in East London, Unathi draws strength and discipline from his upbringing. “There’s no film industry where I come from, so I’ve had to work ten times harder to prove myself and remain disciplined,” he says. His journey is a testament to his resilience and commitment to his craft.
