After a breakout year filled with chart-topping hits like “Yeah Glo!,” “Wanna Be,” and “TGIF,” GloRilla is capping off her stellar run with the release of her much-anticipated debut album, GLORIOUS, dropping today (Oct. 11). The star-studded project features some heavy-hitting guest appearances, including Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Sexyy Red, Kirk Franklin, T-Pain, and more.
Reflecting on the journey to her debut, GloRilla told Billboard that her album was initially set to drop last year, but she decided to take her time. “I was still just getting used to stuff and working a lot,” she said. “At the start of this year, I basically had the album done, but I thought, ‘I gotta give them the mixtape before the album.’” And so, she did, dropping the mixtape to get fans reacquainted before delivering the main course—GLORIOUS. The strategy worked, with her mixtape drumming up anticipation and setting the perfect stage for her album’s release.
Of course, Glo didn’t just stop at bangers like “Wanna Be” and “Accent.” She teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion once again for their latest collab “How I Look,” cementing their status as a dynamic duo. Speaking on their friendship, GloRilla shared, “I don’t really have a lot of industry friends. I’ve got associates, but me and Meg really got cool. I didn’t expect it.” According to Glo, the two bonded over their shared humor, with Megan FaceTiming her out of the blue just to crack jokes.
