Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to the rollercoaster of love, and her recent split from Ben Affleck has offered her some major life lessons. After rekindling their romance in 2021 and tying the knot in 2022, the superstar duo called it quits, with Lopez, 55, filing for divorce on August 20, on their two-year wedding anniversary.
In a candid chat with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine, Lopez opened up about her post-breakup revelations. Reflecting on the pain of the split, she didn’t sugar-coat how tough it was. “That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost take me out for good. It almost did,” she admitted. “But now, on the other side of it, I think to myself, ‘F—, that is exactly what I needed. Thank you, God.’”
Lopez, ever the queen of resilience, confessed that it took multiple heartbreaks to finally hit home. “You had to hit me really hard over the head with a f—ing sledgehammer. You dropped the house on me. Don’t have to do it again,” she joked, showing her ability to laugh through the pain.
This was Lopez’s fourth walk down the aisle, after being married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, the latter with whom she shares 16-year-old twins, Emme and Max. With such a well-documented romantic history, J.Lo is no stranger to love’s highs and lows.
But this time around, the actress and singer has found peace in being on her own. “Now I’m excited… I’m not looking for anybody,” she told Glaser. After decades of navigating both love and heartbreak in the spotlight, Lopez seems eager to embrace her independence, adding, “What if I’m just free?”
Lopez also reflected on her journey of personal growth, acknowledging that life is a never-ending process of learning and evolving. “There’s no arrival point,” she said. “It’s either growing or dying, and I don’t want to do the dying part.”
The Unstoppable star may not have all the answers, but one thing is clear: Jennifer Lopez is flying solo and feeling freer than ever, and she’s embracing every minute of it.
