Thabo Rametsi and Charlize Theron Unite for Epic Comic Series Imbokodo

In an exciting fusion of South African creativity and Hollywood star power, actor and writer Thabo Rametsi has joined forces with award-winning actress Charlize Theron to bring the epic comic series Imbokodo to life.

Known for his powerful portrayal of apartheid activist Solomon Mahlangu in Kalushi, Rametsi continues to push creative boundaries through his production company, Nguniverse, which he co-founded with business partner Thabiso Mabanna.

According to Truelove, Imbokodo is not just any comic series, it’s a tribute to Africa’s legendary matriarchs. Through the series, Rametsi aims to celebrate iconic African queens such as Queen Modjadji, Queen Nzinga Mbande, and Queen Amina, among others, showcasing their courage and legacy. “When we first started building the world of Imbokodo,” Rametsi shares in a press release, “we aimed to create something that would resonate deeply with audiences everywhere. Bringing African warrior women to the forefront of this narrative is an ode to the strength and resilience of African heritage.”

Set against the backdrop of a centuries-long war in the Ndawo village, the story takes a dramatic turn when young women start disappearing amid the chaos. The Queen of Ndawo dispatches the fierce Imbokodo warriors to uncover the mystery and bring back the missing women. Rametsi adds, “This comic series is not just about entertaining viewers with African history but also about preserving it, ensuring that African heroes are remembered for generations to come.”

Theron, an advocate for diverse storytelling, was captivated by Imbokodo’s powerful female protagonists. “When Thabo and Thabiso from Nguniverse Studios first brought us this idea, we were so impressed with the epic scope and emotional depth of this world they created with such incredibly powerful female African warriors at the center,” she remarked.

With Theron’s creative expertise on board, Rametsi says the project has reached a new level. “Having a partner as dedicated to bringing diverse stories to life as we are has elevated Imbokodo,” he shared. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Rametsi expressed his gratitude for Theron’s involvement, stating, “Ms. Charlize has been incredible during this journey and provided us with the support and opportunity to tell the story of great African warrior Queens like Nzinga, Manthatisi, Nandi, Modjaji, Amina, Linga, Nehanda, and so many more at the highest level.”
