Brace yourselves, J. Cole fans, is about to take people on a journey unlike any other. The rap powerhouse has announced Inevitable, a brand-new “limited audio series” that’s part confessional, part mixtape, and entirely captivating. Featuring unreleased tracks and behind-the-scenes insights, this isn’t just a series; it’s a cinematic experience for your ears.
Taking to Instagram, Cole dropped the curtain on Inevitable, a project he’ll helm alongside his manager Ibrahim ‘Ib’ Hamad and long-time collaborator Scott Lazer. The synopsis promises “a raw and reflective” trip down memory lane, offering listeners a front-row seat to the highs, lows, and everything in between of Cole’s incredible career. From the days when he was just a kid with a dream to becoming one of rap’s most revered figures, Inevitable will fill in the blanks of his story.
In the teaser, Cole described the creative process behind the series with characteristic humility. “It’s hard to write a caption to describe what this is,” he admitted. “We settled on calling it an ‘audio series,’ but to me, it plays like a movie in the form of a conversation.”
According to Cole, the idea came to life after countless deep-dive conversations with Ib and Scott, who then crafted the discussions into a narrative. It wasn’t just about reflection, though; the process proved to be a cathartic experience. “It was new, it was fun, it was emotional, and more than anything, it was therapeutic,” he shared.
And it’s not just therapy for Cole, it’s a gift to his fans. Through Inevitable, Cole hopes to share hard-won insights about ambition, faith, and perseverance. “I understood more than ever the power of having a dream,” he explained. “The magic that happens when we stay in alignment with God, and the darkness that can come in the times that we don’t.”
Initially hesitant to open up, Cole revealed he ultimately decided to share the series for his younger self, and for anyone chasing a dream. “A younger me would get so much fuel from hearing this,” he wrote. “So if you rocked with me at any point so far on my journey, I hope this gives you even more perspective.”
Launching on Monday, November 18, the first episode of Inevitable marks Cole’s latest release since his single “Port Antonio,” where he sidestepped the much-talked-about feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. This time, though, the spotlight is on J. Cole himself, his trials, triumphs, and the music that’s defined his life.
