Get ready to laugh, cringe, and cheer as the ‘Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi’ promises to turn up the heat at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on Thursday, November 21. This much-anticipated event will bring together an all-star lineup of celebrity roasters, ready to throw some serious shade and comedic jabs at the beloved actress and presenter Pearl Thusi.
Taking the stage are some of South Africa’s most iconic names: TV and radio star Phat Joe, R&B sensation Donald, and platinum-selling singer-songwriter Zee Nxumalo, alongside firebrands Zodwa Wabantu, Randall Abrahams, Busiswa, and Farieda “Pharoahfi” Metsileng. Together, this panel promises an unforgettable night of savage humor, over-the-top banter, and maybe even a few blush-worthy moments.
In a statement, the producers teased: “They’ll be firing shots at each other while trying to make Pearl Thusi squirm in her seat.” And if their pre-show comments are anything to go by, they aren’t holding back!
Known for his no-holds-barred commentary, Phat Joe is already sharpening his comedic knives. “South Africans have a love-hate relationship with our stars,” he said. “The higher you rise, the harder you fall, and people love seeing you take a tumble! I’m sorry, Pearl. I know too much, and I’m not holding back. I hope we can still be friends.”
Don’t underestimate this rising star. Nxumalo is ready to bring the heat, despite her youth. “Don’t be fooled by my age,” she warned. “I intend to hold my own on stage among these icons and legends. It’s going to get really, really hot in the roast kitchen, and I can’t wait to dig in!”
Known for serenading fans with his music, Donald is trading ballads for burns. “It’s on!” he exclaimed on Instagram. “We’re roasting the most beautiful @pearlthusi, and I’m on the panel, baby. Oh, it’s going to be glorious!” He added, “A lot of these entertainment personalities have inflated egos, and it’s time to bring them down a peg or two.”
Of course, all eyes will be on Pearl Thusi, who’s ready to take it all in stride. With her signature wit, grace, and infectious laughter, Thusi is set to show the roasters, and the audience, why she’s a true star.
Monde Twala, Paramount Africa’s senior VP, summed it up best: “We’ve packed our Roast panel full of iconic South Africans who’ve reached the pinnacle of fame, and they’ll take great glee in skewering their fellow celebs. No topic is off the table during the #RoastofPearl-no matter how racy-so prepare yourself for an evening of outrageous fun.”
The ‘Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi’ will air on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) on Sunday, December 8, at 9 PM. Mark your calendars—it’s going to be the most hilarious night of the year!
