South African music powerhouse Tyla is wrapping up 2024 on a high note, proving yet again why she’s a force to be reckoned with. The rising star has snagged a jaw-dropping eight nominations at this year’s Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), cementing her place as one of the industry’s brightest new talents.
The prestigious ceremony, hosted by Marriott Bonvoy and presented by Billboard, the authority on music charts and industry trends, celebrates the crème de la crème of the music world. And this year, Tyla’s name is shining brightly among them.
The BBMA nominees were revealed on Monday, November 25, in Los Angeles, sparking an outpouring of excitement from fans and peers alike. Tyla’s accolades include nods for Top R&B Artist, Top Afrobeats Artist, Top R&B Song, Top R&B Album, and Top R&B Female Artist. But that’s not all—she’s made history as the first artist ever to land three nominations in a single category at the BBMAs!
Her hit tracks “Water”, “Truth or Dare”, and “Jump” have all secured spots in the Top Afrobeats Song category, a testament to her genre-defying artistry and global appeal.
“Tyla really doesn’t remove her pretty foot from people’s necks. She is not letting y’all breathe—her only competition is herself and herself only,” raved Twitter user @sadestyla.
While the BBMA nods are a monumental achievement, Tyla isn’t stopping there. She’s also landed in the top 10 most-streamed female albums of 2024 on Spotify, solidifying her status as a streaming sensation.
In a year dominated by music heavyweights like Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Sabrina Carpenter, Tyla’s meteoric rise is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Swift, who is competing with Drake for the most all-time BBMA wins, is among those leading the pack, but Tyla’s trailblazing journey is turning just as many heads.
