South Africans love a bit of spice. Whether it’s in the chakalaka added to the holiday meal, the comments that Gogo throws at the family gathering, or in the way that our local brands bring flavour to our lives, we’re all for it.
Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind, the proudly sweet, shamelessly spicy new vodka variant by Smirnoff has turned up the heat this month. As sponsors of the Roast of Pearl Thusi, Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind collabed with Comedy Central in serving up a platter of shots to some of the SA celebs that we love, and love to hate.
Put under the grill, Pearl and the other panelists, David Kau, Tol Ass Mo, Farieda “Pharoahfi” Metsileng, Rob van Vuuren, Mam’ Lillian Dube, Idols’ “Mr Nasty” Randall Abrahams, and entertainers Phat Joe, Zee Nxumalo, Zodwa Wabantu, Busiswa and Donald, all took and dished the spicy sizzle in equal measure.
Whether fan or foe of the Black Pearl, Pearl Thusi’s willingness to be sauced, roasted and then some, was admirable. One who can definitely handle the heat, Pearl said that she saw the Roast as “a sort of lifetime achievement award,” showing her standing in pop culture.
Speaking of spice and pops (but not the ones your thinking of), if you missed the Roast on Comedy Central this past Sunday, fear not. Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind has been delivering the spice to other unsuspecting victims all week.
Illustrating the brand’s mission to turn up the heat and shift the vodka vibes, Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind showed up at the likes of Quincy and Somizi’s houses, the Yfm studios, and even the SMag newsroom, surprising recipients with a ravishing roast of their own.
Why all the spice? Because Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind is changing the game when it comes to spirits. More than just a unique flavour, Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind plays in the shot space as an alternative to the usual suspects. It’s fresh, it’s new and it’s a little bit extra. And that’s the point.
Curated for the vibe shifters, Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind encourages Mzansi to mix things up this Dezemba. Whether as a cold shot or in a cocktail, we could all do with a bit of spice.
For a drink that’s best served chilled, Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind has certainly turned up the heat.
