Today marks what would have been the 37th birthday of the late South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.

On this emotional day, his mother, Lynn Forbes, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute to her firstborn, reflecting on the moment he entered the world and the profound impact he had on her life. 

“On this day, at 1:15 in the early morning, I heard your first cry. I felt your warmth as you were placed on my chest,” she wrote, recounting the experience of AKA’s birth.

“Your natural birth, 37 years ago, left me exhausted yet invigorated. I couldn’t take my eyes off you, counting every tiny toe, every little finger.” 

Lynn described the awe she felt as she held her son for the first time, marvelling at his perfection and the promise he represented.

“In that moment, my heart changed forever; you made me a mother. I was yours, and you were mine. A bond unbreakable, an infinite love.” 

Although she acknowledged the pain of his absence, Lynn made it clear that her son’s birthday is a day of celebration and remembrance.

“I can never say ‘happy heavenly birthday,’ for your birth day is an occasion forever etched in my heart. Happy birthday, Kiernan.”
