In what has been an exciting day at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic made his way through to the fourth round of the Australian Open, with a clear 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win over opponent Thomas Machac. The match was unfortunately interrupted at times with a few unruly fans at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Djokivic in his classic power play style playing mostly from the back line, dominated play with his powerful combinations that stretched the world No.25 men’s tennis player. The Czech produced some of his own magic with several returns catching Djokovic on the wrong foot.
Other Men’s winners in third-round action included World No. 2 Alexander Zverev, No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz as well as American Tommy Paul ranked World No. 12.
The men’s division has seen several surprise exits including World No.29 Felix Auger Aliasime, and Australian Jordan Thompson ranked No.26, but there have been few upsets in the women’s division. World No5 Zheng Qinwen being the one exception.
Earlier today women’s world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who is the two-time defending champion in Australia, No. 3 Coco Gauff, No. 11 Paula Badosa and No. 14 Mirra Andreeva all made their way fairly comfortably into the fourth round.
Naomi Osaka, a previous two-time champion at the Australian Open, left the court in tears as she withdrew due to an injury. The American sustained a strained abdominal muscle after dropping the first set of her match against Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic.
In the biggest upset of round 3, World No. 7 Jessica Pegula, has just lost her match 6-7 and 1-6, to 23-year-old Serbian player, Olga Danilovic, who is currently ranked at world No. 55.
