A Scam Called Love: A Hilarious Rollercoaster of Romance, Risk, and Deception

A Scam Called Love, the highly anticipated South African romantic comedy, is set to dazzle audiences when it hits Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro screens nationwide on Friday, 7 March 2025.

From the brilliant minds of powerhouse husband-and-wife duo Carla Fonseca Mokgata and Nthato Mokgata (aka Spoek Mathambo), this film flips the traditional love story on its head, delivering a delightful mix of chaos, charm, and comedy.

Leading the charge is award-winning actress Didintle “Didi” Khunou (13 Weeks To Find Mr. Right) as Zola, an ambitious chef with big culinary dreams, and UK-based rising star Tobi Bamtefa (Mayor of Kingstown) as Julian, a free-spirited line cook who thrives on risk. When fate and financial troubles bring them together, they hatch a wild plan: a green-card marriage that will solve all their problems. Or so they think.

But what starts as a simple scheme quickly spirals into a web of hilarious mishaps, tangled emotions, and unexpected family drama. With government officials on their tail and their own families growing suspicious, Zola and Julian must keep up appearances, without catching real feelings.

Backed by a star-studded South African cast, including Brenda Ngxoli, Thando Thabethe, Lwazi Mthembu, Fezile Mpela, Rendani Mufamadi, and Trevor Gumbi, A Scam Called Love promises both laugh-out-loud moments and heartfelt sincerity.

“We wanted to create a film that’s not just funny, but cleverly chaotic, deeply South African, and effortlessly stylish, one that celebrates love in all its messy, unpredictable glory,” say directors Carla Fonseca Mokgata and Nthato Mokgata.
