It’s the end of another chapter in Khanyi Mbau’s love story, and this time, it seems final. The Young, Famous & African star has officially announced her breakup with Zimbabwean millionaire Kudzai Mushonga. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Monday, 3 February, the actress and reality star reflected on the end of their relationship, hinting at past struggles and her newfound courage to walk away.
“He was a good guy, but he did some bad things,” Khanyi revealed. “He tried everything he could to make it up to me. I did most of my grieving while we were together. I finally got the courage to leave. And of course, I wish him the best.”
She wrapped up the announcement with a reflective caption: “Give everything time… I am grateful for the experience. 💫”
Khanyi and Kudzai’s relationship has been a rollercoaster since they first got together in 2021. Who could forget their dramatic Dubai breakup that broke the internet? Kudzai famously dropped Khanyi off at a salon, only for her to hop on a flight back to Johannesburg, without telling him. But the couple later reconciled, with Khanyi returning to Dubai and the two flaunting their rekindled romance on social media and in the first season of Young, Famous & African.
Despite their glamorous reconciliation, Khanyi later shared an important lesson from the experience. Speaking to YFM in 2021, she urged women to know their worth and never stay in a place where they’re unhappy.
“I was grateful to have that platform because I never spoke about this Dubai thing. People saw it as a mockery, but it was actually a statement to empower you and say know your worth. If you’re not happy in a place, never stay—leave and work things out,” she said.
Since then, Khanyi and Kudzai have kept a low profile, making only occasional public appearances. That is, until now—when she’s made it clear she’s officially moving on.
Interestingly, Khanyi’s announcement comes hot on the heels of another high-profile split. Just days before, she showed her support for fellow Young, Famous & African star Annie Idibia, after her husband, Nigerian musician 2Baba, announced their divorce.
