Loyiso Bala, known for his impressive music career, is proving that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. At 45, he’s a prime example of how combining fame with education can open new doors.
His journey took an unexpected turn when, at 36, he realised that relying solely on his music career might not provide long-term stability.
Loyiso shared his story on social media: “At 36, I faced a harsh reality. If I didn’t make a change, I’d soon be in my 40s, struggling to book gigs, watching opportunities fade. Despite my success in music, I knew I couldn’t depend on it forever.”
Realising he had no degree and no corporate experience, he knew he had to make a bold move. “I walked into Henley Africa, hoping to start from scratch. A friend suggested I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which allowed my experience to count towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Business (PGDip).”
Though the transition was intimidating, Loyiso didn’t give up. He later went on to complete an MBA, volunteer at TBN Africa, and eventually became Channel Director. His career in media grew, and today, he leads major radio stations at SABC.
“At 36, I had no idea if I could rebuild my life. Now at 45, I stand in a career I once thought was out of reach, and it feels like I’ve been doing this for decades,” he reflects.
Loyiso’s story is a powerful reminder: it’s never too late to start over.
