PSL Exco Resolves Royal AM Saga: Club Out of Nedbank Cup

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Executive Committee (Exco) has made a pivotal decision regarding the ongoing Royal AM saga that has left the league in turmoil.

After a period of uncertainty, the committee has taken action to address the situation.

Royal AM, owned by well-known businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, has not played a PSL match since December 29. The club’s fixtures have been postponed due to being placed under curatorship by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) amid a legal battle.

It was reported that Mkhize owes SARS a substantial amount, estimated at around R40 million, further complicating the club’s situation. As a result, Royal AM has fallen behind in both their Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup fixtures.

In a move to resolve the ongoing crisis, the NSL Executive Committee convened on Monday to review representations made by the Curator and Royal AM’s management. After careful deliberation, it was decided, in agreement with both the club and the Curator, that Royal AM would no longer participate in the Nedbank Cup this season. This decision was made in the interest of time and the scheduling of the competition.

As a result, the Nedbank Cup fixture (number 21) between Milford FC and Sekhukhune United FC will proceed as scheduled, set for 15:00 on March 2, at Princess Magogo Stadium. The league will release ticketing information for the match in due course.
