Love is in the air, and so is the sound of music! Pop sensation Selena Gomez and super-producer Benny Blanco are taking their relationship to the next level, musically, that is! The couple shocked fans on February 13, just ahead of Valentine’s Day, with the announcement of their first-ever collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, set to drop on March 21.
But this album isn’t just about music, it’s a deeply personal journey through their love story, from their earliest days to their bright future ahead. According to Entertainment Weekly, the record will explore “their entire story before they met, falling in love, and looking to what the future holds.”
As a preview of what’s to come, the couple has already released their first single, Scared of Loving You, a beautifully raw, guitar-driven ballad. The track, which has already started climbing the charts, sees Gomez pouring her heart out about the fear of losing someone special.
“‘Cause I’m not scared of loving you / I’m just scared of losing you,” she croons in what Vogue describes as an emotional and intimate performance.
Gomez and Blanco aren’t the first power couple to mix business with pleasure in the studio. Musical partnerships have given the world some of its most iconic love anthems.
Beyoncé and JAY-Z redefined couple goals with hits like Crazy in Love and their joint album, Everything Is Love. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz have blended R&B and hip-hop seamlessly over the years. Big Sean and Jhene Aiko’s Twenty88 project showcased their undeniable chemistry through a fusion of R&B and rap. Even before them, Teena Marie and Rick James were setting the stage for love-fuelled duets in the funk and soul world.
Gomez and Blanco’s I Said I Love You First now joins this esteemed list of couples making magic in the studio.
This isn’t the first time Gomez and Blanco have collaborated. Their musical partnership dates back to 2015 when Blanco co-produced Kill Em with Kindness and Same Old Love on Gomez’s Revival album. They reunited in 2019 for I Can’t Get Enough, and their creative chemistry only grew stronger. In December 2024, the duo made things official—announcing their engagement!
