South African football legend, Benni McCarthy, has officially been unveiled as the new head coach of Kenya’s national men’s football team, the Harambee Stars.
The 47-year-old former striker has signed a contract that will see him lead the team through to the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Kenya’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, Hussein Mohammed, expressed excitement over the appointment, stating: “In our mission to transform Kenyan football, we are delighted to announce South African Benni McCarthy as the newly appointed Head Coach of our men’s national team, the Harambee Stars.”
Following a thorough and rigorous selection process, Mohammed expressed full confidence in McCarthy’s abilities, highlighting his vast experience, vision, and dedication to developing Kenyan football.
“We are confident that McCarthy is the right person to lead our national team forward. His experience, vision, and commitment to developing Kenyan football align perfectly with our ambitions,” said Mohammed.
In addition to McCarthy’s appointment, FKF also announced the arrival of a talented support team. Vasili Manousakis will serve as Assistant Coach, Moeneeb Josephs has been appointed Goalkeepers Coach, and Pilela Maposa will take on the role of Performance Analyst.
Mohammed further emphasised the wealth of expertise that the new coaching staff brings to the table, expressing confidence that their collective experience will instil tactical discipline, structure, and a winning mentality within the team as they prepare for future competitions.
