We know him for his hilarious skits on TikTok, but Ofentse “Primo” Baloyi is more than just a content creator—he’s a rising force in South African entertainment. His commitment to self-improvement and consistency has kept him at the top of his game. Now, his transition into acting proves that social media success can open unexpected doors.
One of the most loved aspects of Primo’s content is his relationship with his father, football legend Lucas Radebe. But was this move strategic? “Slightly,” he admits. More than anything, he wanted to show people that his dad is a joker at home. At the same time, he saw an opportunity to introduce Radebe to a younger generation. “Now, people call him ‘Ubaba ka Primo’ instead of Lucas Radebe, and that gives him another brand to work with,” he says proudly.
We sat down with Primo at Sasko’s Harvest Table lunch to talk about his journey from content creation to acting, his strategic approach to social media, and his ultimate vision for South African comedy.
What has contributed to your success as an actor and content creator?
Self-awareness and taking care of myself consistently. Hanging around the right people and surrounding myself with good energies have played a huge role.
How did you transition into acting?
I was very professional with my approach to social media. I wanted my skits to feel like mini productions. One of Mzansi Magic’s content managers saw my work, was impressed, and offered me a role on Lingashoni.
Did you ever consider becoming a professional soccer player?
I actually played professionally for 19 years! I was with Bidvest Wits but had to quit in 2019 due to injuries. I also realised that where I was heading wasn’t where I wanted to go. I dreamed of playing in top European leagues, but my age made that goal difficult. So, I shifted my focus, and here we are today.
What’s your biggest wish for the future?
I want to be the standard of entertainment in South Africa. I want to shape the comedy landscape and make the South African perspective on humor and current affairs resonate globally.
