EXCLUSIVE: Ten Years, Countless Moments: Siphesihle Vazi’s Reign Continues

As the prestigious Metro FM Awards return to the spotlight on May 3 in Mbombela, presenter and media personality Siphesihle Vazi finds himself at the intersection of celebration and purpose. While fans anticipate the glamour of the evening, Vazi will be marking a deeply personal milestone behind the scenes—ten remarkable years in the entertainment industry.

“I received the call to announce the nominees, and I must say, I was genuinely surprised,” he shares with a smile. “I’ve hosted numerous events over the years—corporate and lifestyle—but this one stood out. Representing a brand like the Metros is a privilege. No matter how long you’ve been in the game, it’s always an honour.”

A decade into his career, Vazi speaks with the humility of someone still in awe of the journey.

“I haven’t planned anything just yet,” he says of a potential anniversary celebration. “The last time I hosted something personal; it ended with a hijacking. That experience stayed with me, so I’ve been cautious. But ten years is significant. It deserves acknowledgement, even if it’s something small and meaningful.”

What’s kept him going all these years?

“The people,” he says simply. “Selimathunzi is incredibly people-focused, and even during our off-seasons, the support doesn’t stop. I have an unwavering passion for the arts—whether I’m presenting or acting, I give it my all. And then there’s the production family, Skhonyana Productions, who embraced me fully. I’ve never felt like I didn’t belong in this industry.”

This year, Vazi returns to the Metro FM Awards not as a guest on the black carpet, but as a key player behind the scenes.

“I’ve worked on the production side for the past three years, and I’ll be doing that again this year. While I won’t be in front of the cameras, I take pride in helping ensure the show runs flawlessly.”

When it comes to categories, he’s most excited about?

“Song of the Year, without question,” he says. “It’s one of the most anticipated categories with ten nominations, and it’s fan-voted, which always makes it exciting to watch unfold.”

What can audiences expect from Vazi for the year?

“Definitely more Selimathunzi,” he says enthusiastically. “The show is performing exceptionally well—our numbers are climbing week by week. It’s been incredible to witness that kind of growth.”

As for acting? “I’m not sure what this year holds. If I’m fortunate enough to land auditions and make time, I’ll be on set again. Acting is something I’ll always prioritise when the opportunity arises.”

He also hints at wanting to expand his repertoire. “I’m hoping to explore new avenues in presenting—perhaps something live or even a game show format. It would be great to challenge myself and stretch those presenting muscles a bit.”

His presence on social media remains a curated space where fans can keep up with his brand partnerships and production work—though, ever the professional, he prefers to speak publicly about projects only once they’re firmly in motion.

Outside of Selimathunzi and production, Vazi describes himself as someone deeply invested in the broader industry ecosystem.

“I’m not a musician or a dancer,” he laughs, “but I try to contribute wherever I can. If I’m not presenting, I’m acting. If I’m not acting, I’m learning about production. It’s about staying engaged and expanding my understanding of the craft.”

And if he ever ventured into music?

“I wouldn’t be the one singing,” he chuckles, “but I’d love to be behind the camera—perhaps exploring how the business side of the industry works. There’s always more to learn.”

From passionate newcomer to respected industry figure, Vazi’s journey is a testament to consistency, versatility, and an unshakable love for storytelling. As he steps into the next decade of his career, one thing is clear—his story is still unfolding.
