2Baba Apologises After Saying Men Aren’t Built for Monogamy

Nigerian music icon Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia has publicly apologised to his wife, Natasha Osawaru, his children, fans, and those who look up to him, following backlash over controversial comments he made about monogamy and male sexuality.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, 2Baba shared a heartfelt video where he admitted, without detailing specifics, that he had “messed up” and acknowledged that his recent statements made him appear foolish to many who once saw him as a role model. “I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people,” he said. “I made a comment that made me look very unlegendary to those who once respected me.”

The apology comes in the wake of intense criticism sparked by an interview 2Baba gave to media personality Nedu, in which he boldly stated that “man was not built to be sexually with just one woman.”

“A man’s heart, respect, and love can belong to one woman,” 2Baba said, “but sexually, it’s impossible for a man to be with only one woman. That’s just how men are biologically wired.”

The remarks have reignited debates about gender expectations, fidelity, and respect in relationships—particularly as they came just months after 2Baba announced his separation from longtime wife and actress Annie Macaulay Idibia. Days later, the singer introduced his new partner, Natasha Osawaru, on social media.

This isn’t the first time the African Queen hitmaker has made similar statements. During a past episode of the Netflix reality series Young, Famous and African, 2Baba echoed the sentiment, claiming men can love deeply yet still cheat purely out of sexual impulse. His estranged wife Annie, also a cast member, was visibly emotional during that moment and has previously spoken out about his history of infidelity. She revealed that the singer fathered five children with other women outside of their marriage.

Whether his apology will mend fences with his fans—or his ex-wife—remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: 2Baba’s legacy is now caught between his undeniable musical influence and a growing controversy that questions the man behind the legend.
