This past weekend was an eventful one for long-time friends and radio jocks, DJ Fresh and Euphonik. The Oh Ship! Entertainers have stepped down from their radio duties on 947 after a rape case was opened against the two of them by a woman who accused them of drugging and sexually assaulting her.
As the nation watches on to see how this case will unfold, the silence of those who have either dated, married or been linked to the two popular DJs has been notable.
Euphonik’s exes keep their lips sealed
Themba Nkosi – known as Euphonik to his fans – has a chequered dating history which has made the headlines in the past for all the wrong reasons. Although he tries to remain private when it comes to his dating life, one person who has constantly defied that self-imposed rule is his ex-girlfriend, Bonang Matheba.
The Being Bonang star opened a case of domestic violence against the DJ back in 2012 and has since stood by her story that he physically abused her during their toxic relationship which ended in the same year.
Although the last time that she spoke about Euphonik was fairly recent, chiming in when he admitted that all men are trash, she has been silent about the latest saga, even as other celebrities have spoken up against both Fresh and Euphonik.
This hasn’t stopped a number of Bonang’s supporters from bringing up the story during this latest saga. One particular fan wrote, “Bonang was bruised from being assaulted by Euphonik and people still called her hlanyo and that she was lying! What do you want from women exactly? The problem is not only the justice but the whole lot of apologists..”
What have DJ Fresh’s exes said about his accusations?
Meanwhile, DJ Fresh isn’t the most popular personality in certain quarters of the entertainment industry, especially with those who are still close to his longtime ex-girlfriend,Penny Lebyane. The outspoken radio and television star has said nothing regarding the latest saga, but much of the damage has already been done.
Penny rocked the country back in 2019 during the height of the #AmINext protests when she shared sordid details about their relationship which ended in the early 2000s. Penny alleged that while they were dating she had found compromising pictures of teenage girls on the DJ’s laptop (although she didn’t name him specifically) and went on to hint that the entertainer had a thing for much younger girls.
Although she has not commented on the latest allegations, others have remembered her warnings, including local heavyweights such as Lebo Mashile. Lebo might not be directly involved, but she noted with caution that DJ Fresh and Euphonik have been implicated a number of times
While we wait for further details from the investigation, the debate around Fresh and Euphonik’s questionable track record will continue to fuel speculation over whether or not they are guilty of the most recent allegations.
