South Africa’s favourite funk duo, Easy Freak, are back with their atest single, Only Like You Do, off their upcoming new album, The Touch, set for release on 11 December via Ultra Records. A song that was first penned back in 2016 was given a second chance.

“Dom had written most of this track years ago when we first started EASY FREAK in 2016. It was originally written for acoustic guitar as a very slow and melancholic song, but we changed the time signature, added some groove and funk, and brought it back to life. We’ve grown so much as songwriters and producers, and it’s always a fun time giving an older track a second chance.”

Their previous release came back in December 2025, and if you’ve been wondering what they’ve been up to since then, the answer is fairly obvious.

“A lot of music!” Jude shares. “As we gear up to the release of the album, there will be a lot of music and content leading up to it.

”With all the composing, producing and writing happening in-house with both Dom and Jude, the new music they’ve been creating has allowed them the opportunity to stretch their musicality and utilise mostly live instrumentation.

“We were honoured to have some incredible musicians play on Only You Can Do, ”they share.

“We had Clem Carr on the string arrangements, Freeman Gumede on bass, Gloria Boyi on strings, and Zama Zwane on backing vox. Josh Berry did a stellar job as mix engineer, and we got it mastered in the UK at Stardelta Audio Mastering.

”The album will be the first body of work where the duo have truly been able to express their musicality with all the live instrumentation.

”Their team extends further than the musicians in the mix with them; they’ve also got an amazing team (including Jonty Hurd, Liam Litton and Seb Burger) behind them, bringing the visuals for the music to life.

“This body of work is so special to us. There was a lot of time and thought put into this – with songs transitioning into each other and moments where the music truly speaks for itself.

”Their new album is dropping via Ultra Records – an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. They recently signed on after years of independent backing.

“We’ve always been fiercely independent since we started out. That taught us a lot about how to remain self-sustaining, and that’s definitely played a big role in us being able to stick around for almost 10 years. Even though we’re now signed to a major label, we’re still very involved in absolutely everything.

” The global growth of their music has grown substantially over the last year and a half, and there is no sign of slowing down. Right now their focus is on the new music.

“We recently also moved into a new studio space, which we’re super excited to start writing new music here. There’s also been a lot happening behind the scenes that we’re setting up for the future. It’s all been a blessing.”
