While in Shanghai for the launch of NikeSKIMS’ first physical destination in China, Kim was handed a red crocodile Hermès Birkin 35 by a fan who asked her to sign it; right in the middle of the bag!
Armed with a metallic gold pen, Kim initially looked hesitant before joking, “This feels illegal” and admitting that signing the luxury handbag felt “blasphemous.” After the owner insisted, she went ahead and put her signature on the Birkin.
The bag’s exact value has not been independently confirmed, but a near-identical red crocodile Birkin 35 with palladium hardware is currently listed by luxury reseller Madison Avenue Couture for $44,500, which works out to more than R750,000.
Naturally, the internet had opinions. Some people joked about the possibility of the bag being fake, while others argued that having Kim Kardashian’s signature on a Birkin could actually make the collector’s item even more valuable.
