The Luxurious Marble Circus has never been shy of spectacle. But for its 3rd year, a detour from the ordinarious, through the fantastical and along the yellow brick road lead the curious and creative back to the Savanna Dry District – a place where sipsation, sound and performance came together to mark an unapologetic opulenza for 3 decades of the world’s number 1 cider (IWSR, 2025).
To mark the milestone, Savanna transformed its presence, in true Evophoria style, into an immersive celebration of the cider, its stories, its legacy in South African comedy and its unmistakable dry wit that have shaped the brand. All brought to life as a living cultural meeting point where 30 years of Savanna heritage met contemporary South African culture through music, creativity and unforgettable experiences.
Long before QR codes, augmented reality and viral content, the now-iconic line, “Do you know your monkey stole my Savanna?”, became part of SA advertising history books. 30 years later, that iconic bit of mischief came swinging back, inviting a new generation into the joke. In the lead up to all the feastivity, the Savanna bottle mysteriously disappeared from the brand’s digital platforms, sparking speculation around who had pulled off the ultimate brand heist. The answer revealed itself inside the Savanna Dry District, where the monkey was loose, the joke was alive, and festival-goers stepped straight into a piece of Savanna advertising folklore.
The Savanna Dry District unfolded as a world of its own: performance on the mic, music in the air, Savanna in hand, and unmistakable brand moments around every corner. Inspired by the cultural hubs where South Africans have gathered, laughed, danced and connected over a Savanna for decades, the Fantastical Forest hosted comedic engagements, performances, and cider rituals in a way that enhanced the Circus’s signature peculiarizm, creating a space that felt both extraordinary and unmistakably South Ahh.
Then came the sound of the Dry District. Savanna partnered with DJ Kent – multi-award-winning DJ, producer, composer and songwriter – to curate the WeeKent experience, an ode to an album and a line-up of artists who have made it their life’s work to maintain the rhythm of connection in this country.
What's your hot take on this story?
Of course, comedy kept the District deliciously sharp. For long-time Savanna fans, Barry Hilton’s surprise cameo landed as the ultimate cultural wink: a throwback that did not feel trapped in the past, because good dry humour ages better than most status updates. For younger festival-goers, it was an invitation into a joke that started before their first group chat and somehow still understood the room.
A lot has changed between 1996 and 2026, but Savanna’s commitment to crisp, dry refreshment and not taking life too seriously remains firmly intact. For three decades, the brand has continued to find new ways to connect with South Africans through humour, culture and experiences that leave a lasting impression.
“For 30 years, the brand has given people a cold, crisp, dry cider, a sharp punchline and a reason to laugh together,” says Zetské Posthumus, the Sponsorship Activations & Events Manager at Savanna. “Celebrating that at Luxurious Marble Circus was never about nostalgia for the sake of it. It was about showing that the same dry wit, the same crisp cider and the same Savanna spirit can still feel completely current when it meets great music, comedy, creators and a crowd ready to be surprised.”
As the Luxurious Marble Circus closed its curtains for the third time this weekend, Savanna left the field with one clear proof point: 30 years in, the brand is not done causing a scene. The spectacle may have packed up, but the dryness remains. The cider is still crisp. The humour is still sharp. The formula still does not need an upgrade.
