The original and authentic South African story called Boy Ntulikazi was back again, proudly presented by PopArt theatre.
This amazing and multi-award-winning theatre show was created and written by the great Thobani Nzuza, and it has been showcasing since 2015.
This story is one of the few stories that dig deep into the harsh realities of social issues that people are facing on a daily basis. Boy Ntulikazi’s story shows how challenges determine the way individuals reflect on the world around them. Boy Ntulikazi’s past has damaged him mentally, leaving him unstable. Ntulikazi, the man assumes a variety of character roles in an almost schizophrenic mode. There is no set on stage as the patient is an awaiting trial observation case.
When ESA asked Thobani what inspired him to create such a piece he said, “it is the daily ills of our society and lack of documented information about issues of identity.” There was no better time for such art to be portrayed as we are currently in the Mental Awareness Month, and the show went live on the 10th of October which is Mental Awareness Day. Thobani Nzuza was accompanied by Nhlanhla Zondi as he embodied the life of Boy Ntulikazi on stage.
Many faces in the media industry with the likes of the cast from Isithembiso, Ayanda Daweti from eTV Scandal, afro soul musician and theatre actor Mnqobi Yaz-+o as well as the brains behind Bomb Productions, Angus Gibson, all came in numbers to come and see the show on the opening night. More people came throughout the duration of the show, by the day of the last show, which was Sunday the 13th, tickets were sold out.
The Show was live from the 10th until the 13th of October 2019 at PopArt Theatre in Maboneng.
