There is now talk of a second assistant coach being added to the Kaizer Chiefs technical team as Ernst Middendorp looks set to continue in the Amakhosi hot seat despite recent pressure.
Chiefs haven’t officially confirmed that the club has taken any decision regarding the future of the German-born mentor, but last week his only assistant coach – Shaun Bartlett – told the media that, as far as they know, there were no indications they would leave Naturena in the coming weeks.
Bartlett also said there was a desire, presumably from him and Middendorp, to add to their technical team.
“The management is looking into that particular need as far as beefing up is concerned and how we can improve it,” the former Bafana striker told journalists.
“We have heard so many coaches, even Pitso (Mosimane) said he wants to thank the 14 people around him. We don’t want 14 people, we just want people to make sure that we can get them in the right positions, assist where it’s necessary and then obviously get the players to the level that’s needed.”
When pressed about whether Middendorp would have another set of eyes besides him, Bartlett confirmed there has been a request.
“Probably. But that is a decision that will be made by management. As far as I know it is something that has been put forward,” he explained.
