Elaine on signing with Columbia Records: ”I’m a representation of each African girl who doesn’t want to be boxed in”

South African born singer Elaine is starting off the year on a high note and is already making major moves.

The singer took over the planet in August and left many in awe when she joined an equivalent label as Beyoncé and Adele.

While Elaine independently released her seven-track EP, Elements, the SA-born songstress officially signed with Columbia Records within the US.

This was confirmed during a tweet posted by the record label and welcoming her together with her latest video, Risky.

Elaine revealed she was over the mope being signed to such an enormous record label.

She told TshisaLIVE she was looking forward to bringing her unique story to the planet .

“I’ve got a totally different story to inform . I’m a representation of each African girl who doesn’t want to be boxed in.”

MD of Sony Music Entertainment Africa Sean Watson described Elaine as “unquestionably deserving of the popularity she’s getting for her music”.

Hailing Pretoria, Elaine became a household name when she released her EP in mid-August. The project went platinum and made her the most-streamed female artist in SA.

The Wits student also became the primary independent female artist to succeed in the amount one spot on the Apple Music sub-Saharan African charts.
