Actress and entrepreneur Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa recently took to Instagram to reflect on her challenging and spiritually intense experience while filming a scene for Tales of a Thespian. In a heartfelt post, she opened up about the emotional and physical toll the role took on her, sharing the difficulties she faced while bringing her dark character to life.
The scene in question involved her character being “initiated into the dark world,” a narrative turn that Enhle described as both uncomfortable and haunting. “The scene was my character being initiated into the dark world [eek cringe],” she wrote, explaining how deeply she connected with the role. Her character, she explained, was inherently dark, and the process of embodying such a role took a toll on her mind, body, and spirit. She would return home after shooting, praying for cleansing to separate herself from the character.
However, as filming progressed, things took a darker turn. Enhle described the set’s atmosphere as increasingly unsettling. “The Set designers had done a great job!!!! To good of a job, red candles lit, sage burning, and with every single take my spirit felt a heaviness,” she revealed. The intensity of the environment made her and her co-stars feel deeply uncomfortable. “I asked my co-stars if they felt the same way… and the general consensus was yes,” she recalled.
Despite the overwhelming discomfort, Enhle leaned into her craft. “As a Thespian, I had to deliver,” she shared. Despite the growing unease, she powered through every line and scene, praying deeply with each take. “At times I even forgot my lines, but thank God I’ve been in the industry for this long and understand that if you relax, everything comes to you,” she explained, highlighting the importance of staying grounded.
Reflecting on the experience, Enhle emphasised how she felt her spiritual guides and guardian angels surrounding her during the scene. “I’ve never felt my guides and guardian angels surround me like they did,” she said. “God was present for me to guard my spirit in a big way.”
Enhle shared a life lesson she hopes resonates with her followers: “Easy come, easy go. KEEP GOD IN YOUR AURA AT ALL TIMES. We’re only human; we need him.”
