SABC and Danie Odendaal Productions announced the end of the Afrikaans soapie, 7de Laan on Monday.
The long-running soapie will be saying goodbye to our screens on the day after Christmas, 26 December 2023. The show has been airing for 23 years with 24 seasons.
“7de Laan will not be recommissioned for another season when season 24 comes to an end in December 2023, the SABC supplied speaking to News24. The production didn’t provide any reasons as to why they decided to cancel the show.
The show posted on its Twitter account a statement announcement.
‘With a heavy heart, we bring you the sad news of the SABC’s decision to conclude the beloved soapie, 7de Laan, after Season 24 – the final episode being the 26th of December 2023. We are eternally grateful for each and every one of you and for being on this journey with us.,” wrote 7de Laan.
Lala Tuku, SABC head of content for video entertainment, says, “The SABC is proud to have worked with Danie Odendaal Productions and been part of the journey leading and producing the best Afrikaans soapie on local television for SABC 2. 7de Laan has penetrated the hearts of millions of South Africans.

As we come to the end of this chapter, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated cast and crew who have poured their talent and passion into bringing the show to life.”
