SEE: Durban Fashion Fair designers collab on SA’s Tokyo Olympics kit

The Tokyo 2021 Olympics & Paralympics will be the first time South African athletes will wear a locally produced kit.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics will begin on Friday 23 July 2021 and end on Sunday 8 August 2021. Naturally, we’ve taken an interest in the designer gear all the competitors will be wearing on and off the field for the Olympic games.

Earlier this year Nike announced that they designed sustainable and high performance basketball and soccer uniforms for various teams participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The sportswear brand designed uniforms for America’s basketball teams as well as soccer jerseys for USA, Korea and Nigeria.

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) unveiled the on and off the field kit at a red carpet event in June 2021. The new kit was designed by the committee’s new partner, Mr Price Sport, with the creative input from 4 local designers from the Durban Fashion Fair’s development programme. The four designers are Mbali Zulu, Nompumelelo Mjadu, Sandile Sikhakhane and Sipho Lushaba.
