Five memorable moments from the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards

Host Minnie Dlamini had big shoes to fill as she took over from the previous presenter Bonang Matheba who is currently in New York promoting the second edition of her champagne brand, BNG.

Dlamini didn’t disappoint however as she held the fort and delivered a series of no less than eight fashion choices which went down well with the audience. Mrs Dlamini Jones also walked the red carpet in a cream-and-beige gown accompanied by her cameraman husband, Quinton.

There were several moments during the 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards ceremony at the TicketPro Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg, that were worth a mention, considering that the ceremony debuted to mixed reviews.

Some branded the show all but dead and buried while others appreciated the effort made by several performers to inject some excitement into the fabulous do. If you missed Saturday night’s show, you can catch the repeat of on Thursday 19 March at 21:30 on Channel 161.

Sindi Dlathu wins first award for her ‘The River’ character
On-screen villain Sindi Dlathu was finally paid her due for her portrayal of Lindi Dlamini on Mzansi Magic’s The River. Dlathu celebrated her win by singing

Although her vocal performance was somewhat shaky, she gracefully proceeded to thank her fans, family, friends and cast members for her win.

Warren Masemola gives an epic speech
It’s the second time that Warren Masemola has received the best actor gong. This time he was there to collect his statuette which he dedicated to his fellow nominee Presley Chwenyegae.

His acceptance speech was so epic that you have to watch it to believe it.

Minnie Dlamini’s stylish wardrobe changes

While she has been criticised in the past for making lacklustre fashion choices, this time Dlamini went in for the kill and enlisted Gert-Johan Coetzee, Orapeleng Modutle and Asanda Madyibi to exclusively design her a set of striking outfits.

The result was stunning: Dlamini looked amazing in her gowns.

DJ Zinhle performs her smash hit ‘Umlilo’

The second-best performance after Makhadzi was undoubtedly DJ Zinhle and Rethabile who paired up to deliver a sassy take on their hit, Umlilo. This was one of the most robust acts of the night and a surprise appearance by singer Winnie Khumalo made it even more lively.

Makhadzi shuts everything down
As her hit track Matorikisi burns up charts around the country, Tsonga singer Makhadzi was enlisted as the showstopper for the awards.

She brought a mix of fanatical energy and colour to the stage as she prompted the crowd to get off on their feet and join her. Rapper Cassper Nyovest proclaimed that Makhadzi was the show’s lifesaver and we have to admit that he may be spot-on with his statement.
