It’s the Queen’s birthday today, our very own Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi
Zozi is one of many stars that have humble beginnings and have proved that where you come from does not matter, but rather where you are going.
Born and bred in Tsolo, Eastern Cape to parents Philiswa Nodapu and Lungisa Tunzi, and raised in the nearby village of Sidwadweni. She is one of four sisters.
Well educated, prior to winning Miss South Africa, Tunzi was completing a Bachelor of Technology graduate degree in public relations management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and worked as a graduate intern in the public relations department of Ogilvy Cape.
Zozi pushed herself hard after becoming a runner up for Miss South Africa 2017, and found herself not only as Miss South Africa 2019, but ended up crowned Miss Universe 2019. Talk about beauty pageant goals and a powerhouse.

In her own words, “I think we are the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up space, nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself, thank you.”
The beauty queen now resides in New York, but she recently came back home, and she reminded us that no matter where she is, her traditional cooking skills are with her. We all need those skills this Heritage month.
