DSTV reacts after Tiwa Savage cancels her show

The BET award-winning Nigerian star has taken to social media to express her disgust following the slew of xenophobic events that have taken place in South Africa.

She posted on Twitter: “I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. This is sick. For this reason, I will not be performing at the upcoming DStv delicious Festival in Johannesburg on September 21. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this”

DSTV has since responded to her stern tweet and re-assured fans that they are against xenophobia and ensured that attendees will be safe, and no attacks of any form will be tolerated.

The broadcaster also took to Twitter to release a statement saying: “As a Festival, we have always been an inclusive event with our gates open to everybody, irrespective of where they come from. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination and will continue to ensure that the festival is a safe and inclusive place for all,” added organisers”

Many stand with Tiwa in refusing to perform in any upcoming events in South Africa. Nigeria comedian Basketmouth has refused to perform in an upcoming event in South Africa.

Mlindo the vocalist took to Twitter with much distress to express his disappointment in the xenophobic attacks happening in South Africa and as a result had to cancel his upcoming show in Zimbabwe because he feared for his life. I’m supposed to travel to Zimbabwe this weekend, but I fear for my life since I’m South African. My country is doing so much harm to our brothers and sisters I have no choice but to wonder what lies in another African country as an AFRICAN!!!???”

Xenophobia has lifted its ugly head again in South Africa but this time things are getting heated as other African nations are not taking South African behavior lightly anymore.
