Just today morning, Radio Islam announced that the grandson of the legendary Nelson Mandela, Mandla Mandela has converted to Islam… and has performed Nikkah (Islamic wedding) in Cape Town. It was too good to be true, so your #1 Celeb gossip news portal did some digging… here’s what we found.
It is true! Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla married his Muslim bride Rabia Clarke during the weekend.
Mandla shared the marriage news yesterday.
‘’I extend my gratitude to Rabia’s parents, her extended family and the Muslim community, for welcoming me into their hearts,’’ he said.
The Nikkah, which took place on Saturday in Cape Town, is the fourth for Mandela, whose roots originate from the Xhosa tribe and who currently serves as the traditional chief of Mveso.
‘’Although Rabia and I were raised in different cultural and religious traditions, our coming together reflects what we have in common: We are South Africans,’’ he said. Gossip has it that Mandela is still legally married to his first wife, Tando Mabunu – Mandela, with whom he has been involved in a bitter divorce squabble.
