    Micasa dumps record label

Hot group plans to go it alone after four years with Soul Candi

RUMOURS are doing the rounds in Mzansi that Afro-pop group Mi Casa has dumped its record label of four years. Group members J’Something, Dr Duda and Mo-T have allegedly left the Soul Candi record label over serious financial disputes.

“The group was no longer happy with the arrangement that the record label takes half of the money for every booking they get. If the group was charging R10, the label would take R5. They felt Soul Candi was taking more than they deserve,” said a source.

Sources said the Your Body hitmakers haven’t been using Soul Candi studios in a long time.  “They’ve been using Dr Duda’s studios,” said the source, who added that members of the group have started their own label.

“Since the beginning of this month, the group is no longer under Soul Candi,” the source explained.

The industry insider said many artists were leaving the stable because Soul Candi was not paying them well. “Some of us expected Mi Casa to be one of the most highly paid groups in the industry, considering their success. But it looks like they were not making that much money,” the source continued.

Mi Casa’s manager, Collin Mokgaotsi, denied that the group has left the stable. And Soul Candi issued a statement that they believe in the development not of only artists but entrepreneurs as well. Without going so far as to say that Mi Casa has left the label, Soul Candi claims to have concluded “a new commercial agreement” with Mi Casa.  “Three individuals Dr Duda, J’Something and Mo-T, who are incredibly talented, have built an amazing brand. It’s been an honour for us to play a role in the first few chapters of this story. “They’re an extremely creative, passionate and hard-working group of guys and we look forward to achieving many accolades together.
