The Rwandan government has suspended the Miss Rwanda beauty pageant competition after its’s organiser, Dieudonne Ishimwe was arrested on allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.
“Based on ongoing investigations by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) of the CEO of Rwanda Inspiration Backup, over alleged sexual abuse of Miss Rwanda contestants, the Ministry of Youth and Culture informs the general public that the Miss Rwanda beauty pageant has been suspended pending completion of investigations” the Rwandan Minister of Youth and Culture, Rosemary Mbabazi shared.
According to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau, Dieudonne Ishimwe, popularly known as Prince Kid, was arrested on the 27th April 2022 over alleged “sexual assault related crimes”.
Dieudonne Ishimwe is the head of Rwanda Inspiration Backup, the company behind the annual Miss Rwanda beauty pageant and faces charges of rape, soliciting or offering sexual favours and harassment.
The allegations are said to have occurred over a period of several years.
The arrest of Prince Kid comes after the announcement that former Miss Rwanda had resigned as the communications director.
