LeBron James signs a 2-year deal worth billions with Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to their first NBA title in a decade earlier this year, has agreed a two-year contract extension worth $85m (R1.3 billion), opening the possibility of him playing in the league at the same time as his son.

On the other hand, Anthony Davis is expected to sign a new five-year, $190 million (R2.9 billion) contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal also includes an early termination option ahead of the 2024/25 season, the fifth year of the deal. With four guaranteed seasons, though, Davis has committed to the Lakers at least through his 31st birthday.

James will turn 38 during the final year of the deal and all indications suggest James plans to spend the rest of his career in Los Angeles. Now he can feel secure in knowing that Davis will be right there with him. The Lakers are the defending NBA champions and 17-time winners of the title.

The new season will tip off on December 22, 2020.
