South African film royalty—actress Leleti Khumalo, producer Anant Singh, and director/writer Darrell Roodt—have once again cemented their place in international cinema with a major win at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The trio scooped the prestigious Golden Nymph Award in the ‘Special Creation’ category for their powerful film Don’t Give Up.
The Monte-Carlo Television Festival, one of the most prestigious television events in the world, is often dubbed the European equivalent of the Oscars. It celebrates exceptional television and film content from across the globe, including productions from digital platforms. This year’s 64th edition of the festival saw Don’t Give Up rise to the top, marking another global achievement for South African filmmakers.
Taking to Instagram, Khumalo expressed her deep gratitude and excitement for the win. “In its 64th edition this year, the Monte-Carlo Television festival has become one of the most prestigious international television festivals in the world, showcasing quality content from around the world including digital platforms,” she shared.
Reflecting on the significance of the win, Khumalo continued, “An absolute honour to have gone up and accepted this award with my producer, Anant Singh, someone who is always by my side in my career. Another huge thank you to our director, Darrell James Roodt. I’m forever grateful to work with you.”
The actress also took a moment to thank the royal family of Monaco for their warm hospitality. “Thank you to Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco for so warmly welcoming and congratulating us in your beautiful country. I am truly humbled.”
