South African soulful-pop sensation Lloyiso has released his brand-new single Scary. The track serves as the lead single from his upcoming EP, Never Thought I Could.
Described by Lloyiso as the “perfect breakup song,” Scary captures the raw vulnerability of love, timing, and regret. The song recalls true events in the singer’s personal life in relation to his own breakup, when the relationship came to an end due to differences that just could not align at that time. With the partner yearning to be loved, but Lloyiso, having been consumed by his work, was not able to reciprocate a response to his partner’s yearning. Now that he is ready to love, his love interest is no longer available.
Lloyiso’s reflection deep reflection is clearly represented in the song, as he explores his emotions authentically through soulful lyrics. When talking about his new single, Lloyiso says:
“Scary is my honest admission that I wasn’t emotionally ready to give my whole heart, even though I physically wanted to. It’s a breakup with my past love, my old self, and my old ways—a reminder that love alone isn’t enough. You need time and self-awareness to truly love yourself before you can love someone else, and to be strong enough to say, ‘It was never about them—it was always about me’.”
