Minister Fikile Mbalula’s alleged tweet: ‘’Every member of the SAPS follow me on Twitter, it’s an order.’’

If the tweets are genuine, then we guess we don’t need Sherlock Holmes anymore because Minister Fikile Mbaks is there for you on twitter!

Following his appointment as the new minister of the blue line, Mbalula has been using twitter as a way of mobilising and reporting crime.

“If people report crime on Twitter and inbox me I will refer those cases to the department to fight crime.”

A recent tweet allegedly posted by the minister has raised speculations on the direction of the law enforcement. It reads, “Every member of the SAPS follow me on Twitter, it’s an order.”

Some people have reacted by saying the post was fake, while others say it comes from the same account the minister has been using.

The minister later responded to a Twitter user, saying: “Fake news – this never happened.”

Fikile Mbalula has been an active twitter user lately, and has launched a number of hashtags highlighting the recent SAPS successes, ranging from mandrax busts to arrests.

One user tweeted that her cousin robbed a bank a few years ago and was arrested but he’s out now and is having fun spending the money he stole. The minister responded by asking the user to tell him where this happened.

A police officer said he saw nothing wrong with cops following the minister on Twitter.

“It would actually make life easier.”

Tell us, do you think it is a good idea for cops tweeting for crimes, or do you think this is a disaster waiting to happen?
